Howard Partners was founded in 1998 by Dr John Howard as a specialist Australian public policy research and strategic management consulting firm.

Prior to establishing Howard Partners, John had been a partner with both Coopers and Lybrand (now Pricewaterhousecooopers) and before that Ernst & Young, for 10 years and brought with him his considerable knowledge of the public sector and strategic management to his new firm.

The firm’s philosophy is founded on providing analytical and research approaches to improving the performance of its client organisations. The firm’s clients include Commonwealth, State and local government agencies, universities and research organisations, as well as numerous industry associations.

During the past decade, Howard Partners has built a nation wide reputation for its independent, sound and evidence-based approaches that genuinely help organisations improve performance and achieve their objectives.

Howard Partners combines its specialist knowledge, expertise and experience in management strategy and organisational communication to help organisations to improve the way they work.

In mid 2008, Anne Howard took on the role of managing director of the firm. Anne is a highly experienced management consultant and brings a wealth of skills, expertise and know-how in knowledge management, knowledge sharing using the Internet, strategic communication, financing innovative enterprises and creating a collaborative community.

In recent years, Howard Partners has been active in the area of knowledge management, business-university-government relations and interactions and in finding ways to improve knowledge transfer between these institutions.

The firm has also made major contributions to public policy knowledge and program design, specifically in the area of research commercialisation, industry policy, and science, technology and innovation policy. See Publications

Members of the firm are also involved in teaching at different tertiary institutions.

The firm funds its own research program through extensive investments in knowledge resources and participation in post graduate education and industry training programs. Howard Partners is based in Canberra.
