Taree Universities Campus receives Government funding support

On Monday 1 June the Commonwealth Minister for Education, the Hon Dan Tehan announced that the Taree Universities Campus Board had been successful in its Application for financial assistance to open the Universities Campus for first semester 2021.  The Board is Chaired by Dr John Howard, Managing Director of Howard Partners.

Taree Universities Campus will enable students in the MidCoast region to stay connected with family, friends and employment while enabling them to gain new qualifications that will benefit them as well as their community and their local economy.

Once operational, Taree University Campus will be able to support those in the local region experiencing under-employment or unemployment as a result of COVID-19, and those who may be seeking to reskill, building on the Government's $1 billion funding package for Higher Education Relief.

Taree Universities Campus will provide:

  • Study spaces, break out areas, video conferencing, computing facilities, and high-speed Internet access.
  • Administrative and academic support services such as developing writing and researching skills and managing administrative processes.
  • Student support services, including pastoral support, study advice, and assisting with accessing student services.

The Campus will meet a demonstrated gap in support for study in the MidCoast community. It will complement, rather than replace, existing and planned university investments in MidCoast. While students will be enrolling directly with their chosen university, TUC is there to assist in navigating the applications and enrollment processes.

The project concept is modelled on a "mixed-mode" campus in Geraldton, Western Australia. This format gives students access to online lectures and activities, as well as face-to-face tutorials and laboratories. There is a strong view that the model can be developed successfully in MidCoast.

Further Information about the Campus is provided in a more detailed Information Paper that draws on the Application submitted to the Government for funding.
